First Love

When was the first time you fell in love with the game? And no I am not talking about spades, even thought that game has caused more controversy in the black culture than we want to admit. Play without sandbags and you might get cut. But no, when did you fall in love with the game of basketball? What happened for you to watch games late at night even though you had work the next day, or caused you to get into heated arguments with a complete stranger over which team is better or who is the greatest of all time. What caused you to wear a jersey and go to a game and scream at the top of your lungs over grown men that you will never meet in your life? What caused you to want to play all day and all night long? What caused you to dribble up and down the street doing crossovers on defenders that only existed in your head? What caused you to be at the playground shooting the ball and counting down from 5 with an imaginary crowd cheering you on? What caused you to dream that you could play professional basketball? The biggest question of them all, WHAT CAUSED YOU TO STOP LOVING THE SPORT?

Everyone has their favorite pair of sneakers. You would wear them so much that you had to get shoe polish to cover the scuffs. What is your favorite pair? Why are they your favorite pair? What made you spend yours or your parents money on these sneakers? Why did you walk pigeon toed so that you wouldn’t crease them? Why did you give the sneaks the old tooth brush treatment? You know, get that AJAX out and scrub them joints. Holla at me! What about those sneakers that every time you saw them in your adult life, you would think about a certain time in your life when things were simple? When did buying sneakers be so complicated? Why the hell do I need to go to a damn website to pre-order the sneaks? What happened to going to the local store and asking the associate for your size and give him some dap and bounce. What happened to the social pedestal we would put on kids that worked at the sneaker store while we were in high school. Man those dudes had more clout then the athletes and the kids that worked in the principles office. When did you stop loving sneakers and purchased hard bottom oxfords? When did you listen to a woman or man say “I can’t date someone that only wears sneakers”? When did you accept what other people say about what YOU LOVE?

When we started “Growing Up”, we put certain things to the side and concentrated on the “REAL WORLD”! But what is real? As Morpheus said “The Real World that you know is not really Real”! When we forget what drives us and what makes us happy then are we really being real to ourselves and to society? If you look at the most successful people in the world, they are doing what they love and telling us that we should love it. If you think I am telling a lie then do me a favor and tell me who the hell really needs an Iphone or Galaxy. But we argue which is better, we are arguing over two mens dreams. Basketball and sneakers are a lot more integral than we know. As I write this, I write for My Sole Passion. Let your passion be apart of your soul. PEACE POP!
